A Beginner's Guide to Jersey: Our Top 5 Jersey Fabrics

Beginner's Guide

When choosing a pattern that requires a jersey fabric, it can often be difficult to know which type of jersey to pick; with jersey fabric coming in a range of weights and stretches, all with different qualities, it can be hard to know where to start. We love working with jersey at Workshop, so, in no particular order, we have compiled a list of our top 5 jersey fabrics! These are perfect for use alongside our eBook, The Loungewear Edit: Stretch Edition, or for whatever stretch pattern you have in mind!

Organic Cotton Ribbed Jersey from Ray-Stich

Coming in a few colours, this organic cotton ribbed jersey from Ray-Stitch is the perfect basic to start working with stretch fabrics. Made from 100% organic GOTS-certified cotton, this fabric is super soft and we highly recommend it for the Eva knickers and the Ella crop top in our loungewear eBook.

Organic Cotton Fleece/Sweatshirt from Bawn

This sweatshirting comes in a few muted colours and prints, again making a good option to make some loungewear basics in! Like the jersey above, this sweat shirting is super comfy and made from 100% organic GOTS-certified cotton. We recommend using it for the Imogen sweater/sweater dress from our loungewear eBook.

Melanie Blue - Jersey with TENCEL Modal Fibres from Sew Me Sunshine

If you're looking for something more vibrant, we love this floral print jersey from Sew Me Sunshine! Perfect for a more summery (yet still comfortable) look, we think it would work great for our Clare wrap dress!

Green Viscose Ponte di Roma from Sew Me Sunshine

If you're only just starting to work with jersey, then we recommend this ponte di roma as a great beginner's fabric due to it being a stable knit! With a high quality feel and a good stretch, we'd recommend it for the Millie jumpsuit from our loungewear eBook.

Yellow Melange Brushed Interlock from Ray-Stitch

Another great beginner's fabric, this double jersey has a stable feel and is brushed on both sides, making for a super soft and fluffy fabric! We think it would work great again with the Imogen sweater/sweater dress from our loungewear eBook.
