PJ Making with Headintclouds
Beginners Sewing Class - Pyjama Making
Join us for a Pyjama Sewing Workshop, where you will make a lovely pair of relaxed pyjama bottoms!
This workshop is perfect for beginner sewers, or those looking to get back into sewing. Led by designer-maker and seamstress, Becky from Headintclouds, we will start by working with a graded pattern, getting to grips with all the various markings, and making some basic pattern alterations if necessary.
You will get step by step instructions to sew your very own PJs from scratch! You will learn all the skills required to make your PJs including pattern adjustments for fit and design, neatly finishing seams with an overlocker, sewing straight seams and curves with a machine, inserting an elastic waistband and finishing a hem.
The pyjama bottoms are a unisex relaxed fit, with an elastic waistband. Available in sizes S/M, or M/L (if you think you will require additional sizes please let us know beforehand, we can always accommodate this.)
There will also be an optional extra of making a matching top, if there is time. Otherwise, we can help you prepare and talk you through how to make your top at home after the class.
What you will need:
Please bring with you the fabric you would like to use for your PJs. A medium-lightweight cotton / polyester is perfect. Please make sure this is a woven fabric without stretch. Your fabric can be plain or printed, in whatever design you like. You will need 2m of fabric for the bottoms, and an extra 1m if you want to add the top. Please note, your fabric must be standard width at 140cm – 150cm. If you buy a single-width fabric at 90cm you will need to double the quantity.
We have some fabric available at Workshop, but please make sure you purchase this before the class as we cannot guarantee availability of suitable fabric on the day. If you need some help, our Feather Print Poplin, Grey and Ivory Ikat or Floral Print Poplin make great choices for this.
It would be really helpful if you give your fabric a quick iron before the workshop (this is to prevent any issues with shrinkage & saves a bit of time on the day!)
Please also bring elastic for the waistband. 2.5cm in depth, and 1.5m long should be ample.
You will also need to bring a matching thread for your fabric. We have a small selection of colours available to but in store.
All other sewing equipment will be provided, and hot drinks will be available from the cafe throughout the class.
Can’t wait to see you there!
