Learn to lino cut!

Learn the basics of lino cut printing during this speedy introduction to one of the most accessible traditional print making techniques.

All materials will be provided and the course is suitable for absolute beginners - no experience necessary!

Lino cut print is a relief printing process in which a block is designed and carved to multiple editions or variations of an image. The resulting prints have a striking graphic quality whilst retaining the personality of a unique handmade object.

During the workshop Amy will share her process, tips and tricks to help you to create your own original art prints. She will swiftly guide you through designing and planning your own image. You’ll learn about inks and paper whilst being shown how to safely carve a design using specialist cutting tools. She will also talk you through how to ink up the block and print your design by hand.

You will make at least one printing block designed for an A5 paper canvas that can be printed in a number of colours or used to create a number of identical prints.

At the end of the session you’ll take away at least one finished A5 art print to proudly display at home or share as a thoughtful and original gift. You will also have new skills in a technique which can easily be translated at home.

Images will be provided on the day for inspiration but if you have an idea or image you would like to work with - please bring it along!

Amy uses traditional printing methods to create artwork which is often inspired by folklore, mythology and the natural world.

Originally from Huddersfield, after graduating with a degree in Illustration and Animation from Loughborough University Amy returned to Yorkshire and continued to experiment with technique, materials and design. She now makes and sells art prints and products at various art fairs, exhibitions and independent retail spots in the north of England.

Working from her home studio in Kirkstall, each design begins as a pencil drawing which is then transferred onto lino before being carved and printed. This hands on process means every piece is unique.
