Make a Leather Journal with Catherine Edwards
Book-binding and Leather Journal Workshop
Create your own unique A5 Leather covered Journal, for sketching, field notes recipes or diary entries. The Journal is small enough to tuck into a pocket but big enough to hold favourite cuttings, photographs and postcards.
Using simple book-binding techniques, a range of leathers in different colours and finishes and a selection of papers, you will create a practical and pleasing item to take home with you at the end of the day.
We will cover a range of different skills from cutting leather and paper to size, to stitching, punching and markmaking, you will also get the opportunity to personalise your journal with individual initials.
A small and friendly class guided thoughout by Catherine, using vintage tools and British sourced Leather.
This workshop is 6 hours long and includes a half an hour break for lunch.
Wanting to learn how to create shoes entirely by hand led Catherine to an apprenticeship in London. For 12 years she worked exclusively for 4 or 5 Boot and Shoemakers in the West End and Mayfair. A chance conversation led to a residency at the Royal Armouries in Leeds where she spent two years working with the in house leather worker to produce Jack Boots for the Household Cavalry. She then went on to produce her own collection under her own name, gaining further knowledge which she will share with you through this workshop.
